HITRAN-PC version 4.0
Version 4.0 incorporates a major change and advancement in the program and capabilities, and has been developed over the past several years. It now uses the latest 2008 HITRAN Line-by-Line database, HITRAN UV and IR Cross Section files, the experimental PNNL IR database, aerosol extinction using the Betaspec program, and the water vapor, CO2 and N2 Continuum. Betaspec is a user friendly version of BACKSCAT. It provides the backscatter coefficients and aerosol attenuation coefficients as a function of wavelength and of altitude for clouds, haze, fogs, dust, etc.
HITRAN-PC provides atmospheric transmission only. By comparison, PcLnWin provides transmission, radiance, weather conditions, and naturally occurring aerosols. If only transmission is required, the less expensive HITRAN-PC is ideal.
